Tomorrow, April 20th, Colorado’s Unemployment Benefits program will be open–for the first time–to gig workers, independent contractors, and those who are self-employed. These new claims will be accepted via application found on the Colorado Department of Labor’s website.
Also, all unemployment recipients will now receive an additional $600 per week in unemployment benefits. This additional money will be backdated to March 29th and current recipients do not need to take any additional action to receive that money.
To handle the unprecedented amount of claims and to manage questions, Colorado has also launched a new 80-person call center that will go live tomorrow, April 20th. Additionally, two Virtual Town Halls will be offered by the Colorado Department of Labor tomorrow to discuss these new programs and the extension of benefits to gig workers and independent contractors:
